Rising
to fame in the mid-80’s as the star of such movies as
Red Sonja, Beverly Hills Cop 2 and Cobra, alongside
husband Sylvester Stallone. Her striking butch blonde hair
and six foot physique made her an instant pin-up for men
and women. In 1987 she was asked to contribute to a single
by German rock singer Falco, who’d had an international
hit with Rock Me Amadeus. The duet, Body
Next To Body, produced by Giorgio Morroder wasn’t a big
hit but it got enough attention to get Brigitte her own
deal with German label Teldec.
Solo
superstar…
The
Rock/Pop album, Everybody Tells A Story was released
shortly afterwards and it ceremoniously bombed. Two
singles were released, the title track and an awful ballad
entitled Maybe.
After
a few flop movies Brigitte signed with Polydor Records in
Europe
for a more R&B tinged affair modestly entitled I Am
The One… Nobody Else! The lead single, a reworking of
The Temptations My Girl, entitled My Guy, which brought the
classic bang up to date with some ludicrous spoken adlibs
such as this gem:
“Jammin’
down the street with a ciggy in my hand, I’m a self made
dame with an arrogant man, yeah!”
The
highlight of this 1992 gem is the autobiographical Give Me
A Chance in which Brigitte recounts a quarrel between her
and Sly’s other woman. It’s an absolute gem of a track
which will have you shaking your head from side to side
and wagging your finger like your life depended on it!
